America goes to vote in less than a month. So, it comes as no surprise that many artists have taken to social media to express their political views and encourage their followers to register and vote.
One such artist is Demi Lovato. Known more for her substance abuse battle and as one of the torchbearers for mental health and body positivity, Lovato has been extremely vocal about her political views. Taking to her music to condemn President Trump, her latest song “Commander in Chief” has made it clear just how she feels about him.
The song comes with deeply critical lyrics like “Do you get off on pain?” and “Commander in Chief, how does it feel to still / be able to breathe?”
The netizens, however, made it clear that not all of them were very happy with this latest move. One even wrote, “We could care less what you post about politics but this song is going too far especially when the majority of your family is Republican. I’m personally ashamed to be a Lovatic right now”.
Not one to take things lying down, Lovato had her response. “You do understand as a celebrity, I have a right to political views as well? Or did you forget that we aren’t just around to entertain people for our entire lives?” She went further ahead to say that “I don’t care if this ruins my career. This isn’t about that. My career isn’t about that. “
Lovato added “I made a piece of art that stands for something I believe in. And I’m putting it out even at the risk of losing fans. I’ll take integrity in my work over sales any day.”
Lovato has urged all her followers to vote, irrespective of what their beliefs or political inclinations are.
