Most of us know Ashley Graham, and almost all of us have loved her from the moment we got to know her. As a model, as a feminist, as a body positivity expert, Ashley Graham has always been the one to make the viewers experience a wave of love and glowing emotions.
In January, the model was blessed with an adorable baby boy with which started our beautiful journey with her. With regular updates in her motherhood, most of us relished every “aww” and “OMG” that her baby boy has brought us. In a recent conversation on Red Table Talk with Jada Pinkett Smith, Maren Morris and Jessica Alba, Ashley talked about her experience with body-shaming and the more recent incidents of mom-shaming.
Graham said, “It’s interesting because my whole career has been based around body-shaming because I’m a curvy girl who has come into a skinny world and said that my body, and other bodies like mine, need to be normalized.”
Parenting is a tough nut for the average person, let alone celebrities whose every move is scrutinized. Speaking on mom-shamers and others who have taken it upon them to criticize her parenting, Graham said that they are “just mean girls who grew up to be mothers”. On overcoming the effects of negative comments, she sai:d “Certainly now that I’m almost 40, I’ve come to this place where I realize that most people who have something to say, it’s because they’re so insecure and it’s more of them being ashamed of themselves, being overly critical.”
Ashley also added, “For whatever reason, the natural reaction is to pull other people apart for them to feel justified or them to feel OK”.
And boy do we agree with Ashley. All said and done, we love you and everything that you stand for!
